                                       If you are talking about fun, enjoyment, togetherness, gifts, joy and anything beautiful, you are probably talking about Christmas – the most-anticipated religious and cultural festivity of the year!!

                    Christmas or X’Mas is celebrated every year to mark the birth of Jesus Christ on December 25. The day is the start of the Christian liturgical year and initiates the 12 days of Christmastide. The whole event ends after the twelfth night and is celebrated by both Christian and non-Christians with a lot of zeal and enthusiasm.

                   Christmas is also the time when people exchange gifts and greetings. The traditional messaging these days is replaced with WhatsApp messages which are an easy way to greet your loved ones. Messaging is an unique way of showing love and a great opportunity for everyone to let people know you care about them.

                      Right from the radiance of the twinkling Christmas tree to the thoughtful gifts beneath it; from the fun associated with Santa's stealthy way of making everyone happy, to the wonderful carols and songs people sing – there is something beautiful about this day.Festivals like Christmas is a perfect time and occasion to send warm wishes to our loved ones.

                    Whether it is a way to praise Christ, who was born on this day, or to rejoice the human emotions of solidarity and oneness the occasion entails; whether we talk about the white snow, jingle bells, or the shopping craze associate with the season - there is something overwhelmingly uplifting about this holiday.

The Oyster

There was an oyster once

whose story I tell,

Who found some sand

Had gone into its shell

It was only a grain,

But  gave him a great pain.

For oysters have feelings

Although they are so plain.

Now , did he berate

Harsh workings of fate

That had brought him 

To such a deplorable state?

Did he curse the government

Cry for elections,

And claimed the sea should 

Have him protection?

No.........

He said to himself

As he lay on the shell

Since i can’t remove it,

I shall try to improve it

Now the years have rolled around,

And he came to his ultimate destiny

And the small grain of sand 

That had bothered him so

Was a beautiful pearl

With a richly glow

Now the tale has a moral

For isn't grand

What can  an oyster do

with a morsel  of sand

What couldn't we do

2 STATES- the Andhra-Telangana $pat from a different point of view!!!

All the way back in 2011, when I was in my 11^th or commonly referred to as Inter Ist year, I had first heard about a TRS bandh. I only had a faint idea about the true concept of bandhs or political shutdowns. Luckily for me, I was showered by an immense number that made me study them carefully and understand the true nature. After a whole month of shutdown, I came to a detailed conclusion that a bandh was ‘basically a notion for the deprived and helpless’ (BANDH- What a coincidence!) My conclusion was solid and made sense only for the true meaning but the execution was a completely different concept. The execution involved very few of the deprived and helpless I spoke about, and had more of the brags of every lane and district. In the name of social service, crucial time was eaten up and wasted. Not that I complained, I got a sweet mini-vacation for one whole month.

Fast forward to 2013, the bandhs had affected schools and colleges immensely which made the government and the social workers to give in to establish a new bandh time-table which involved more walks and meets only on a Sunday-basis. After a massive gathering and numerous appeals to the Supreme Court, a new state was formed- Telangana. I had already completed my geography and wasn’t interested to learn more, neither did I have regional pride to carry forward nor did my favourite ‘Chinese bandi’ get separated for the new state to affect me much.

I still woke up at the same side of my bed, used the same toothpaste, walked the same roads, boarded the same bus, reached the usual spot, was lectured on the same syllabus, had the regular shawarma, walked the same road back home, logged onto the same account and slept on the same side of the bed that I did 2 ¹/₂ years ago. The Andhra-Telangana separation did not have any direct effects on any of our lives, not for the common man. It had immense impact hypothetically though, we all were forced to demarcate and establish a boundary among our own. We were forced to pick sides and labeled differently. We have immense diversity for a country of our size which isn’t a good thing if the word ‘unity’ doesn’t tag along.

The separation was a glorious example of determination and self-belief, a revolution that changed the nation, where the leaders never gave up. Their grit and stubbornness was inspiring and set an example. All of this for separation?! The main purpose of this revolution was defeated, several years spent by the UN for unification disrespected. The separation has fired a spark for other states to start a revolution, unite together and divide. That’s the sad truth about the Andhra-Telangana separation.

Science is a subject with an immense amount of knowledge and experiments spanning over millions of books and billions of pages. It has the ability to put you to sleep faster than chloroform. Understanding a concept can easily make you pull your hair off and bald in a few hours! If you do get those concepts, there’s always a chance for it to get outdated or opposed at. What we miss in all this hara-kiri is the true essence of learning, having fun with it. These science jokes require logic and can crack you up; also they are a break from the usual PJ’s.

1. Helium walks into a bar and orders a beer, the bartender says, “Sorry, we don’t serve noble gases here.” He doesn’t react.

2. A physicist, engineer and a statistician are out hunting. Suddenly, a deer appears 50 yards away. Beauty Of An Ugly $car

"I wish I could kiss away this scar", her handsome husband whispered, more to himself, tracing his finger along the scar on her face which was once known to be perfection. He closed his eyes remembering how beautiful the woman beside him once was. His private thoughts were interrupted by his wife.

"Why?" she asked though she already knew the answer. She knew that he does not look at her the way he used to, before she got the scar. His brown eyes which would shine with so much admiration and love when he looked at her, were now devoid of any emotion. She knew exactly how her married life was going to end. She knew it from some time now. And she also knew that the end wasn't far away.

But a small part of her heart still hoped she was wrong about him. That small part made her ask that question hoping his answer might prove her wrong. She was holding onto a thread which was already broken.

He opened his eyes slowly as though he knew he was going to regret looking. And he did. There it was, clear as day. He hated to see his perfect wife scarred. That imperfection bugged him to no end. The woman in front of him wasn't as beautiful as his wife was.

"Because it makes you look so..." he trailed off.

'Ugly' she finished in her mind, blinking back her tears which threatened to fall. No matter how much she prepared herself for those words, it still broke her heart into pieces. No matter how much she thought she could face it, it pained her to hear those words out loud.

She knew why he trailed off. Not because of respect or love. She knew he could care less about her feelings. He hated the word 'ugly'. In his world, there was no place for that word.

Suddenly, she wanted to go back in time and change her decision so that her husband would still love her. Though the thought of her husband loving her again like he used to, tempted her, she knew she’d have been regretting it if she had agreed with him.

 You'd think she hates the scar which successfully ruined her so called 'perfect' married life but, she doesn't. Actually, she loves the scar.

She had a chance to change everything but she chose not to. She knew perfectly well that it was her own decision which led to this . But the thing is, she doesn’t regret it.

Who knew one ugly scar could turn your whole world upside down? Who knew one small word 'life' could suddenly mean so many things?

That's the beauty of my scar, I guess.

First $ession @ its be$t !!

          The session began at 4:30 pm with a good crowd, a mild breeze and the afternoon sun setting on us, an ideal atmosphere for interaction. As everyone took their seats, session kicked off with a few questions for the audience, the answer to which was innovation. It was followed by a quote 'Necessity is the mother of all invention' that holds in the present society as well. Further discussion continued about what we can achieve through an idea, as a portable water cooler i.e. our idea-> our product; gives us both satisfaction and happiness.

          It was now time for the platform heads to take the stage and first up was Aavishkar. Inventions and their implementation in both hardware and software sector was teased. Their flappy bird clone project was displayed and it made heads turn! 

           The next platform was Laghuchitra which was a crowd favorite as it valued indication. The real making of a short film was discussed, actors, directors, editors, scriptwriters, dialogue writers, screenplay were all cross checked. This got the crowd very active as they wanted to make sure that their fan bases got their due support with frequent hoots and woohoos! 

         Creative writing was the next platform. The crowd was told how to draw a link between imagination, creativity and desire. A poem which inspired the crowd to write more was told by our platform head. Projects like IC² library, the magazine, online publication were teased. 

         Next up was Kalasrusthi. Arts and crafts, modernizing and drawing what you see and making what you see come to life, the real meaning to the platform was clearly depicted. The news that exhibitions and field trips would be a monthly activity for the platform got everyone excited.

 
         Mayavi talked about how you can't explain dreams but you make images and videos do it, depict it through graphics. The platform looks forward to give picture to one's deep inner thoughts and imaginations.

       The next platform entrepreneurship gave us information about the tiny difference between innovation and invention by taking a mobile charger as an example. Pure genius! With this platform, an idea will be documented, implemented and then you can make money from your thought process.

           Now it was time for a small entertainment break. A thought process game was played during the break to spark the nerves. It reminded me of the Bollywood movie ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ for some reason.

         The break was followed by introducing the induction program to everyone present there. There was a debate that took place giving the freshers a teaser of what's coming in the near future. During the end of the session, audience was given more importance and few among them were picked up to give their feedback on the session. The session ended with wise words of our Faculty Advisor. The session was adjourned to next Monday after announcing agenda’s for Next session. Idea hour was reserved like a hot cake by four guys.  It was a peaceful session that took place without any interruptions and was a grand success! 

Diwali-A festival of lights and not of pollution and plights

Diwali is the one festival in India which is celebrated by all irrespective of caste, creed and religion. Diwali is celebrated to acknowledge the victory of good over evil. But with the changing time the style of celebrating Diwali has also changed drastically.

Now Diwali celebrations mean electric illumination and bursting noisy fire crackers. This change in the celebration style has imposed many negative effects on the environment; some of the effects are listed below:

•  Excessive air pollution
• Excessive noise pollution
• Soil pollution
• Excessive power consumption
• Consumerism (excess consumption means excess use of raw material)

Besides these environmental effects the modern style of celebrating Diwali also leads to various health hazards. Some of the major health hazards are listed below:

• Hearing loss
•   High blood pressure
• Sleeping disturbances
• Asthma
• Headache

How to Celebrate Eco-Friendly Diwali??

1.   Air Pollution through Firecrackers - "Say 'No' to Fire crackers and 'Yes' to life!" 
For most people lighting of firecrackers is the highlight of Diwali. Brighter the sparkles, louder the noise the greater the thrill!! In fact to many of us, these aesthetic forms of light seem so appropriate and most essential when celebrating the 'Festival of Lights'. 

But little do people realize that in our increasingly populated and polluted cities, the temporary joy of watching the firecrackers is soon replaced by the intense air pollution caused by these. The toxic substances used in the firecrackers release toxic gases that are harmful to the health of all living beings. The high level of noise generated by the crackers cause immense suffering to birds and animals. Besides, Diwali crackers are dreaded by the sick and the ailing. 

Sadly, few of us realize that the firecrackers used on Diwali are mostly made by very young children. Since the substances being handled are extremely toxic many of these child labourers get sick and die in their early teenage years. 

2.    High Energy Consumption
The festival of lights puts a considerably heavy load on electrical energy sources that are already overloaded. The use of electric lights to adorn homes, business establishments, monuments and roads requires a huge amount of electricity. The older tradition of burning oil lamps is a possible alternative to electric lights - even though it does use oil, the duration of the lamps is shorter

To be able to conserve our natural environment it is important to keep in the following principles -
